In the course of our work with individuals and teams,
we use a number of proven diagnostic tools, which help
people to understand each other’s work styles, strengths
and areas for improvement. ChangeWorks’ consultants are
experienced in using these tools, which add real value
to the way individuals and teams function together.
The Team Management Index (TMI)
The Team Management Index measures an individual's
work preferences. This provides valuable feedback in the
key management areas of leadership, decision-making,
team building, interpersonal skills, organisation and
information management. The TMI profile highlights an
individual's strong points, as well as indicating areas
where there is room for improvement.
In essence, the Team Management Index measures four
key issues in any work situation. These are:
- how people prefer to relate with others
- how people prefer to gather and use information
- how people prefer to make decisions
- how people prefer to organise themselves and others
Put simply an analysis of
people and work gives us a
clearer picture of people at work, which in turn helps
each of us appreciate our own, and team colleague’s
strengths and ways of working. When we apply this
understanding and develop clear expectations about what
work gets done and how work gets done, team
effectiveness improves considerably.
The TMI profiles are scientifically based on original
thinking developed by Carl Jung, the Swiss philosopher
and psychologist, and adapted by Margerison and McCann
to apply to management and work situations.
The TMI and the individual profile can be applied at
work through:
Personal Development
- Career paths mapping and interpersonal skills
development
Team Development
- Understanding individual work preferences, how people
like to work and valuing those differences
- Identifying
where the team may fail on particular Types of Work
functions and compensating for team imbalance and
improved linking of work tasks in teams

Belbin® Team Role Profiling
What is Belbin® Team Role Profiling?
Belbin® Team Role Profiling was created
by Dr. Meredith Belbin. A "Team Role" is
defined as:
"A tendency to behave, contribute and
interrelate with others
in a particular way."
A team of individuals playing to their team role
strengths and with an understanding of each other's
contribution can achieve highly. Belbin® Team Role
profiling identifies what individuals can
contribute to team work.
ChangeWorks is licensed to administer and consult in
Belbin® Team Role Profiling.
Our Approach to Belbin Team Role Profiling
Individual Discussions
- Explain the Belbin® Team Role Profiling
methodology and clarify instructions for completing
questionnaires and distributing "Observer"
questionnaires
Questionnaire completion
(a period of 10 working days is generally allowed for this
phase):
- Individuals complete own questionnaires (Belbin's
Self-Perception Inventory)
- Observers complete Belbin® questionnaires (Belbin's
Observer form)
Questionnaire analysis
- Belbin® Self-Perception and
Observer material analysed
- Individual Team Role reports
produced
- Team Role Combinations reports
produced (if required)
Working with Results
Belbin® feedback is effective either
with individuals on a one-on-one basis, or as part of a team
development day. If the latter option is chosen, the focus
is largely on team role combinations and can include the
following:
- Putting our individual and team learning to good use
- What we have learnt about ourselves - individual
team role profile
- What we have learnt about each other - team role
combinations report
- What we are doing well
- Where are our gaps/risks
- What we want to change
- How we will make those changes
- Celebrating what we do well as a team
ChangeWorks offers Team Effectiveness workshops
of one and two days' duration, which are built around the
Belbin Team Role analysis.
Myers Briggs Team Indicator
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator® instrument is a
questionnaire based on the Myers Briggs model of personality.
This model of personality identifies people's preferences, or
natural inclinations.
The Myers Briggs model of personality is based on four
preferences.
- Where, primarily, do people direct their energy?
- How do people prefer to process information?
- How do people prefer to make decisions?
- How do people prefer to organise their life?
ChangeWorks can work with your people using the Myers Briggs
Team Indicator®, to establish personality types. Once these
types are discovered, we can provide individual coaching, so
that this is utilised to best advantage, thus improving
individual performance, and in turn, the performance of your
teams.
